A Nursing Career is Fergusson's Legacy
It could be said that Eleanor J. Fergusson had one of the best jobs in town - the pleasure of welcoming Charles County's newest citizens into the world. Mrs. Fergusson made her career at Physicians Memorial Hospital (the original name of our hospital) and, upon her retirement in the 80's, was the supervising nurse of the Newborn Nursery. Caring for our communities tiniest members gave her great pride, as she helped provide a healthy start to those who would grow up to do great things for their community.
It was in 2007 when Sue Edelen and Ginny Fuese lost their mother, and subsequently learned about the plans she had made for the hospital in her will. As personal representatives of her estate, they carried out her request to make a gift to the Foundation. They requested that he gift be used to specifically benefit newborn infants. The daughters were able to meet with nursing leadership and learn first-hand of the impact that their mother's contribution would make for the nursery.
They were delighted in November 2010 to learn that the infant warming bed purchased using Mrs. Fergusson's gift was used by her newest great grandchild Darren Fuese.
